Care The best time to plant the bulbs is when the leaves begin to fall from the trees. The soil has then cooled sufficiently. Tulips can be planted in loose soil at a depth of about 10–15 cm. The bulbs should be spaced about 10 cm apart. Tulips prefer a sunny or partially shaded spot. When planted in the ground, they can withstand all weather conditions. If planted in pots, it's best to temporarily store them in a cold shed during severe frost.
