Punica granatum starts as a shrub and grows into a small tree with a rounded, dense crown. The branches are light brown, densely branched, and have sharp points (thorny twigs). Care
Punica granatum is not difficult to care for, but it needs a good, warm summer to ripen well in our climate. Due to its limited winter hardiness (down to about -8°C), the plant is best kept as a container plant on a patio, balcony, or courtyard in northwestern Europe. A pomegranate tree prefers fertile, moist, but well-drained soil in a sunny location. If the plant is in the ground, it is advisable to protect it from the cold during severe frost. The pomegranate plant can eventually reach a height of 200–300 cm.
