Musa basjoo, also known as the hardy garden banana, originates from southern China. It is the hardiest banana plant available. Musa basjoo is a beautiful garden banana that can be grown in the ground, in a pot, or on the patio. After about three years, the plant can flower and produce fruit. Under ideal conditions, the banana plant can reach a height of up to 4 meters and a width of about 150 cm.
Care
The plant grows best in a sunny spot in fertile, well-drained soil. Musa basjoo needs plenty of water during the summer months (April to September). The more water it receives, the faster it grows—under the right conditions, it can even grow up to 180 cm (6 ft) per year! Without protection, the top of the plant dies back in winter, but it will sprout again in spring and begin its growth spurt. If the plant is potted, it can be brought indoors in winter and will continue growing there. Pruning isn't necessary, but it can be done at any time.
Size
The plants are approximately 25–40 cm tall upon delivery (including the nursery pot). They are delivered in a nursery pot with a diameter of 9 cm.
