Origin and type: The Dracaena Deremensis 'Lemon Lime' is a tropical houseplant from the Asparagaceae family, known for its fresh green and yellow-green leaves with striking stripes.
-
Growth: Compact to medium sized plant that can grow to about 1.5 to 2 metres tall, with a tree-like trunk and a full crown of leaves at the top.
-
Leaves: Elongated, brightly colored with a broad lime- to yellow-green margin and a narrow green midrib; leaves have a glossy appearance.
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; too little light will slow growth and dull leaf color. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves.
-
Water: Let the top 2-3 cm of the potting soil dry out before watering again; water approximately every 2-3 weeks in summer, and once every 4-6 weeks in winter; preferably use water with a low-limescale base to prevent leaf problems.
-
Humidity: Does not require high humidity, but spraying the leaves can revitalize the plant and remove dust.
-
Temperature: Ideal room temperature between 18°C and 25°C; avoid cold and draughts; do not place colder than 12°C.
-
Soil: Airy, well-draining potting soil; a pot with drainage holes is essential to prevent root rot.
-
Feeding: Feed houseplants every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer); feed less or not at all in autumn and winter.
-
Pruning: If the plant grows too tall or becomes bare, you can prune the stems; new shoots will naturally grow from the pruning site; pruning is best done in spring or early summer.
-
Repotting: Repot every 2 to 3 years, preferably in spring; a pot one size larger provides sufficient growing space.
-
Toxicity: The plant is mildly toxic to pets and children; handle with caution.
-
Extra: Very strong, low-maintenance and air-purifying plant that is ideal for novice plant lovers or busy households.
