  • Origin and type: Non-spreading ornamental bamboo from China, part of the Fargesia nitida family; similar to Fargesia nitida 'Vulcano' but more compact and refined.

  • Growth and size: Grows 2–4 metres tall, with a bushy, dense habit; shoots grow close to the mother plant; narrow, grey-green leaves with dark green to almost black stems from the third year.

  • Position and light: Suitable for shade and partial shade; prefers a cool base (cool soil); can also be planted in large pots.

  • Winter hardiness: Very hardy to -20 / -25 °C, evergreen.

  • Uses: Ideal for hedge planting, specimen planting, as a windbreak, privacy hedge, patio decoration, or Japanese-inspired gardens.

  • Soil and Care: Neutral, well-drained soil; prefers moist soil; not invasive; grows quickly and can be pruned regularly to maintain shape and density.

  • Pruning tips: It's best to prune in spring (March/April); cut back stems to about 5 cm above the ground for new, fresh shoots; stems are sturdy.

  • Planting density: For a full hedge, 1 to 3 plants per m² or 1 to 2 per linear meter.

  • Extra: Offers privacy and a beautiful green structure all year round; suitable for various garden styles and potted plants.
